I think Syria is feeling the hot breath of the U.S. military on it's neck. That's good. It at least makes them try to appear reasonable. But in reality they aren't, as reports like this prove. But I think we're at least moderating their behavior, and that may be all we can hope for.

The situation in Syria is another example of the Bush Administration's hypocrisy. Bush demands that an occupying force leave Lebanon while he is the leader of an occupying force in Iraq. He accuses Syria of having intelligence operatives in Lebanon, and yet the US used some of the weapons inspectors in Iraq as spies, not inspectors. And I would bet a year's salary that the US has covert operatives in both Syria and Lebanon.

I don't know that the US will do anything more than whine about Syria. The war in Iraq is not going well, so Bush doesn't have the troops to commit to a military campaign there. He has also alienated so many former allies of the US that he cannot count on international support for anything he does. He has a big target painted on Syria, but I don't know that he has anything to fire at it.
